FINALLY. like other than the birth of my baby boy...this is the very next thing II was looking forward to....this completes the functionality check box. - for photos and video this is a lifesaver for time restricted jobs. has saved my butt several times just in the past month - headshots for CES and video run and gun segments.barely adds any weight to the overall structured it ROCK SOLID. typical over engineering from ProMediaGear. - don't think about it - if you have 42 sticks get this.

Purchased for my 42 mm long tripod, have the bowl but wanted the option to have a column also. Made and finished very well,quick to change out when needed.

45mm diameter center column adds a lot of flexibility to the PMG 42 series tripod. It will also fit some Gitzo systematic tripods, I think. Fine tolerances, robust collar, and large diameter create a very stable support. Keyed column prevents rotation and is an excellent feature. Center column saves a lot time and extends the maximum height of tripod. Can be reversed. Very useful for copy and macro work. When I need to use a gimbal, the design of the PMG’s 42-series tripod makes it quick and easy to remove center column and replace it with a half ball head.

If you own a 42-series systematic tripod, I think, it makes good sense to add a center column to your kit.

I'd been pestering Tom for the past 2-3 years about a center column for the 42 series, as it was just a placeholder image from the 34mm version...but finally he told me 6 months ago so out of curiousity a few weeks ago I checked and there it was a true image, but it was sold out!! So I put it on my notify list when in stock and checked and it was available so at that instant ordered. When it finally arrived, wow, what a seriously overbuilt piece of carbon and aluminum. Super smooth and every bit the matching quality of the tripod. It works exactly as expected , smooth and rock solid, and will no doubt last the rest of my career at least. I no longer have to adjust all three legs of my tripod to match subject height, sooooo happy with it. For those waiting, snatch it up NOW, you will not be disappointed if you've already maid the 42mm investment.

For a bird watcher who needs the ability to very quickly adjust the working height of a tripod, a center column is essential. The TR42C Center Column for the 42 Series Tripods was out of stock for years (and as of this writing, appears to be so again), but when it became available, I did not hesitate. The column operates smoothly, and it is easily installed on a 42 Series tripod. It seems to support camera setups well while providing the ability to quickly raise or lower the setup as situations warrant.

I hope that ProMediaGear will produce more for the other customers who have been waiting for them.
